Theophilus London ft. Sara Quin – Why Even Try (With Lyrics)

When A Money, Clutch and I saw Theophilus London perform last Thursday in Brooklyn, we had an interesting conversation with a guy who said he’d known Theophilus since they were kids. Apparently Theophilus started out as a hardcore rapper, and although he was successful it never really suited his personality. Fast forward, and now Theophilus styles himself in GQ and elicits comparisonsa to a modern day Prince.

“Why Even Try” was perhaps the best song Theophilus performed at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. On it, the Trinidadian-born vocalist raps and sings over a medium tempo, disco-flavored electronic beat with a staccato baseline and reverberant snares. Cuts on the track were provided by Diplo, and A Lovers Holiday is due out on February 8th. Lyrics for “Why Even Try” after the jump

Why Even Try (Lyrics)

you stole my heart like a thief in the night
stopped in your tracks in the middle of a fight
to make it right let the brimstones burn
i’ll letchu live yours, now let me have my turn
butchu wrong thinking you could stop time
a few hours ahead baby girl not mine
i look ahead i know you see the stop signs
blind men know, it’s not agreeing on time
you drive me insane mrs. rain cloud
moving on the road, took the same vow
now i’m tryna u-turn on the way out
the fire all around us is played out
standing on all fours on the bed
they say some things is better not said
ill    horns on your head
i’ll paint you red and stick horns on your head
i’ll paint you red and stick horns on your head

if you think you’re special, you’re probably not
why even try (why even try)
just living a lie (living a lie)
never been like that (never been like that)
why even try why even try to change

okay okay mrs rain cloud
make the sun shine til the days out
you’re not alone, call my name out
but what if, there’s no way out
and look, the words are an article
reception is bad when i’m calling you
confusion, and it’s the thought of you
you’re no spy, i’m onto you
this letter was written in bitter form
so read carefully, don’t get it wrong
see thats us, but thats gone
the scarecrows, on the back lawn
thats another dress, well put that on
i keep it real, is that wrong?
i’ll paint you red and stick horns on your head
i’ll paint you red and stick horns on your head

if you think you’re special, you’re probably not
why even try (why even try)
just living a lie (living a lie)
never been like that (never been like that)
why even try why even try to change

making little sunshine
til the days out
making your sunshine
til your calling my name out
what if there’s not a simple way out
reception is bad and you’re calling me now
never been like that
never been like that

break

if you think you’re special, you’re probably not
why even try (why even try)
just living a lie (living a lie)
never been like that (never been like that)
why even try why even try to change

i keep it real, is that wrong????? This has to be one of my fav songs of all time. and that says a lot considering the state of hip hop. he is a fresh of breath air. reminds me of Andre 3000/Kanye West.

I believe this guy has alot to bring to the table. I wouldnt compare him to kanye west because I truly believe you can sell your soul for money just cause you are willing to go any lengths to get even if it means speaking it into existance with uour lyrics, then you are so out there u cant see yourself and I dont see that with him at. I see someone realizing why even try to be something that your not and at one time either he was doing that and he backed up in time to repent or he is talking bout an old ex. Though the vocals and the beat along wit everything else to me was slammin. It sounds like he listens to alittle bit of all music and that alright.

One of several true tests of leadership is the capacity to recognize a difficulty before now you have an emergency.
Happiness won’t result from doing easy work but through the afterglow of satisfaction which comes following your achievement of an trial that demanded our best.
