New Island – New Island Beatz Vol. 1 (Instrumental Album)

New Island Beatz Vol. 1 is the freshman effort from Providence artist/producer New Island, featuring warm vocal samples (and an in-the-flesh singer on “Finally”) and soulful music massaged into well-crafted, digital soundscapes. Think 9th Wonder meets Flying Lotus, combining straight forward hip-hop backdrops with highly conceptual electronic music.

The album stands alone as an engaging, well-rounded musical effort, but several tracks cry out for proper treatment from the right rapper. That said, the tape ebbs and flows like the Providence River– a wondrous, naturally beautiful stretch of water that winds through one of America’s oldest industrial cities. Download via BandCamp!

Knxwledge – UndrTheWeathr.EP.

3 dope tracks for $3.

It’s a small price to pay for Knxwledge’s newest EP, a dreamy seven minute tape chocked full of resonant vibraphones and sophisticated drums. At the rate Knxwledge is dropping shit, every car in Philly’s gonna need a car wash. Listen and buy after the jump.

Hir-O – The Freakstrumental Joint (Instrumental Album)

Today marks the release of Hir-O’s long awaited sophomore instrumental release The Freakstrumental Joint. If you’re familiar with Hir-O, then this here’s a no brainer. If not, you’re in for an absolute treat! His soundscapes are as meticulous and diverse as they come, replete with straight forward, head nodding bangers as well as high-brow, pocket-groove stimulants. Peep the tracklist at The Freakstrumental Joint page, and hit the skip to download!

Hir-O – The Freakstrumental Joint (Trailer)

With a stellar instrumental album tucked firmly under his belt, one of Detroit’s finest producers is about ready for a much-anticipated second round. This time though, his angle will be different. Whereas The Voyage Home was Hir-O on a literal and spiritual quest back to his hometown, The Freakstrumental Joint‘s main focus will be…well, can you guess?

J57 – The Analog Tape (Beat Tape)

fwmj’s Producers I Know Presents: J57′s “The Analog Tape,” inspired by early an early-to-mid 90′s sound complete with dirty, dusty tracks that hearken to the Stretch & Bobbito era of beats. Shouts to Dart Adams for overseeing the project!

Will Sessions – The Elmatic Instrumentals

I don’t usually repost other people’s work, but the people at TheLoopDetroit hit this nail squarely on its head:

We all loved Elzhi‘s recreation of the classic Nas record Illmatic as Elmatic when it dropped a couple months ago, but dropping September 27th are the instrumentals from the album produced by Detroit’s Will Sessions. The band not only recreate each beat from the album but gave it its own modern spin to it. After the jump is a taste of the instrumentals with the download of “Memory Lane” along with a video of DJ Premier discussing his impression of the re-interpretations from Elmatic. The Elmatic Instrumentals will be released worldwide on September 27 on CD, 180g Vinyl, and digital formats.

Head over to TLD to see Preem’s response, pre-order the album and listen to “Memory Lane.”

Knxwledge – ShadySide.EP

For the fourth time this month, Philadelphia-based producer Knxwledge drops off a wonderfully ill beat tape. This time, Knxwledge pulls on a variety of soulful, aired-out string, horn and vocal samples, splicing them with nimbly automated drum patterns. ShadySide.EP is available for the nominal fee of $1 via Knxwledge’s BandCamp. Whaddap Gloof!

Knxwledge – Flowrs.EP

Knxwledge has had a prolific August. The Flowrs.EP is the Philly producer’s third release this month, and it’s replete with crumbly, off-beat grooves that are as warm as they are engaging. The tape is like a trip on California’s famed Highway 1– you twist and turn, rise and fall through its peaks and valleys, breathing in clean ocean air while the wind rushes against your face. Knxwledge excels at creating spacious mixes that exude nostalgia, so it’s no wonder the skillful producer was called upon by West Coast rhymers Blu and Co$$ to supply beats for their most recent albums. Keep tabs on Knxwledge via his Tumblr or BandCamp, and thank the GasedBod that he made it a little bit easier to acknxwledge that summer’s quickly coming to an end.

Knxwledge – Komposure.EP

On the heels of his Old.Klouds.LP, talented beatsmith Knxwledge drops off another distinctively atmospheric tape aptly called the Komposure.EP. The tape is comprised of short, twitchy grooves that utilize a variety of source material and drums (including some sounds from the late great Dilla). If you’re in the business of supporting good music, grab this for just $8 via Knxwledge’s BandCamp.
